BEST SYDNEY PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATIONS

Mastering an outdoor maternity photoshoot

Photographers understand the significance of selecting the perfect location for a shoot. Each of us maintains a cherished list of favorite spots, intimately familiar with every corner and the lighting conditions at different times of the day and year. I continually curate my own collection, always eager to discover new stunning locations yet to be explored. I am excited to share these beautiful destinations with you. For a more detailed exploration, including backstage videos and essential tips on lighting conditions and directions, visit my YouTube channel where I feature a video version of this article.

Cronulla Sand Dunes and Wanda Beach

Experience the wild beauty of the beach alongside magnificent sand dunes and a snug bush area, creating an idyllic setting for a family walk. It’s also a dog-friendly location, making it perfect for bringing along your furry family members for the adventure.

Boat Harbour Aquatic Reserve (Kurnell)

Boat Harbour Aquatic Reserve, nestled in the southern reaches of the Kurnell peninsula and embracing the entirety of Merries Reef, stretches all the way east to the trio of green 'Water Board' vents near Potter Point. This place is nothing short of magical for unleashing your creativity. My tip? Just lace up your walking shoes and start exploring this area little by little. You'll stumble upon countless enchanting spots perfect for a variety of photo shoots. Whether you're envisioning a serene maternity session, lively family portraits, tender moments of motherhood, or even a high-fashion editorial, this location has it all. Make sure to wander along the Cape Baily track, which winds from Cape Solander to Boat Harbour Beach, and take the time to uncover every hidden gem along the way.

Long Reef Beach and Its Surrounds

I must confess, all the beaches in Sydney's north are stunning, but Long Reef Beach holds a special place in my heart. It was the first beach I explored when I moved to Sydney, and it completely captivated me. I recommend starting your adventure at Long Reef Headland, particularly enchanting at sunrise. It's an ideal spot for whale watching or taking in panoramic views stretching from the Central Coast down to North Head. Wander down to the rock platform to discover diverse marine life or follow the track to the beach's northern section, where striking red rocks meet the wild ocean. On the southern end, Dee Why Lagoon and a charming bushy hill create a perfect backdrop for family photos. Long Reef truly is a spectacular blend of beach and natural beauty—don't miss it!

DAROOK BEACH

This sandy bay beach is a hidden gem, perfect for families looking for a calm swimming spot shielded from the ocean's waves. The beach is framed by natural bushland and offers a sweeping view of Gunnamatta Bay, creating a beautiful backdrop for any type of photography. I tend to gravitate towards the rocks for my shoots, especially since the beach can get quite busy on weekends. I absolutely adore this quaint and picturesque beach. Its cozy atmosphere is ideal for newborn baby photography, family shoots with little ones, while the stunning rocks and shallow waters provide a perfect setting for maternity photoshoots, model photography, and any creative projects I have in mind.
